Gartner Magic Quadrant for BI Platforms 2012

The 2012 edition of the Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence Platforms, published by analyst firm Gartner, has been published, and like earlier years, is authored by Rita L. SallamJames Richardson, and John Hagerty.  Bill Hostmann is not an author this year.

Oracle has the highest "Ability to Execute" rating among all BI vendors in this year's Magic Quadrant.

Some other notable notings from the research report:
"Oracle is deployed most broadly (in respect of global deployment) of any vendor in this Magic Quadrant, with average user populations nearing 3,000 and data volumes of more than 5 TB, and it is considered the BI standard for nearly 70% of firms surveyed."

On Oracle's Endeca acquisition, the notes states "Gartner believes that this is a forward-looking acquisition that will have significant impact on the company's business analytics future (see "Endeca Buy Extends Oracle's Ability to Support and Discover Diverse Data" for a more detailed opinion of the acquisition)."

"Additionally, customers indicated that they valued the products' ability to support large numbers of users."

"In October 2011, the company announced an engineered system — Oracle Exalytics In-Memory Machine — that leveraged assets across the Oracle stack. The integrated hardware/software analytics solution features a package of OBIEE with new in-memory capabilities (based on Oracle's acquisition of TimesTen), optimized Oracle Essbase to support the range of traditional BI (reporting, dashboards and analysis), and dynamic planning, what-if and scenario analysis, as well as interactive visualization and data discovery capabilities."

It continues to be an exciting time to be in the world of analytics. It continues to be an even more exciting time to be at Oracle, working on analytics. Our customers make us successful, and we strive, every day, to meet those high standards and expectations from our customers.

Gartner Magic Quadrant for BI Platforms 2011

Gartner, a well-recognized information technology research and advisory company, published its Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence Platforms (link to Oracle reprint, this is the permanent link) for 2011, Gartner RAS Core Research Note G00210036, authored by Rita L. Sallam, James Richardson, John Hagerty, and Bill Hostmann.

Oracle, unsurprisingly, continues to be positioned in the "Leaders Quadrant", for the fifth year running.

Here are some excerpts from the Gartner Research Note (emphasis mine):
Oracle customers indicate they deploy the Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) platform to support among the most complex deployments in our survey. Their scope of deployments tends to be the widest across an enterprise — regionally/nationally and globally deployed versus in a single or multiple departments — while OBIEE supports, on average, among the largest numbers of users, the highest data volume, broadest product functionality use, and highest complexity of analytic workload.

Oracle's OBIEE platform is considered the BI standard in more of its customers' organizations (survey respondents) than any other vendor's platform (considered a standard in 85% of their organizations compared to the survey average of 56%).
