Updated BI Mobile App Available (11.1.1.6.2.1140)

An update to the Oracle BI Mobile App became available a few days ago (iTunes link). You would have spotted this update on your Apple iPad devices, by the badge on the App Store icon, and this would also have appeared as in the list of updates available for your iPad device.

So what's new and what's different in this release?
Well, first of all, before you get into that topic, a note on how to identify this update.
When we released the Oracle BI Mobile App for the BI EE 11.1.1.6.2BP1 release, it had a version number of 11.1.1.6.2.1080

This new app has is versioned 11.1.1.6.2.1140
The second way to identify this as an update is by the date. On the Oracle BI Mobile app's page on iTunes, you will see a date of Aug 11, 2012. That is less than a week old.
Updated Oracle BI Mobile app, version 11.1.1.6.2.1140, in App Store App

So what's new in this app?

Basically there are a few bug fixes. These bugs were identified late in the release cycle, and in one case, I think, after the app had been on the App Store. The decision was to put out an update to the app a few weeks hence.
Some of the issues fixed are:

  • Slider prompt values are correctly being displayed and changed as values are updated.
  • Highly dense trellis charts no longer intermittently display network time out errors. If an actual network timeout occurs, end users will be provided with the opportunity to reload the data.
  • Presentation Variables with default values are now being correctly displayed
  • Sliders with ordinal numbers will appropriately populate the to and from fields.

The update process is quite straightforward. Once you tap to install the updated app, it downloads and installs in about a minute or less.

After the installation has completed, you can start the app and either log in to any of the connections you have - all connection information is preserved, or go offline and check the "Version" information to verify that you are indeed, running the latest and greatest (and updated) version of the Oracle BI Mobile App.

In closing, here are a few useful links:

Updated: to add a link to the tweet announcing the updated app, and this post. Very recursive, all this.

OBIEE Patchset 11.1.1.6.2BP1 Available

Oracle Business Intelligence Foundation Suite 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 is now generally available, or "GA", as is more commonly known.

This is a significant update to the Oracle Business Intelligence product suite as it contains two major new pieces of functionality. The first is a set of Trellis visualization capabilities that allow users to quickly create and analyze information using data-dense, word-sized, high-quality visualizations. The second is a completely overhauled and new mobile app for the suite, called "Oracle Business Intelligence Mobile" for the Apple iPad tablet device.
Apart from that, there are also updates to the geo-spatial visualization capabilities, that now support line geometry types.

The software bits can be downloaded from the Oracle Support site at http://support.oracle.com/

How To Download The Patch:
You can either search by the Patch number, or, do a search by product, platform, and release.
After logging in to the Oracle Support site, click the "Patches & Updates" tab, and you should see the "Patch Search" section. If not, then add it to your page by clicking the "Customize" button and dragging "Patch Search" to your page.

Patch Search Section
From the "Product" dropdown, select "Oracle BI Suite EE". You can start typing and the dropdown filters only the hits that match your typed keywords. Click "Oracle BI Suite EE" to select it.
Selecting the Product from the dropdown

From the "Release" dropdown, select the BP1 option. I.e., check the box next to the "Oracle BI EE 11.1.1.6.2BP1" result.

You could simply click "Search", or if you are interested in only a specific platform, then select that platform from the "Platform" dropdown. I have selected "Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)"
Platform options
This will yield a search result set comprising seven rows (not the movie "Seven"). The first file, i.e. the file numbered (1 of 7) is the installer for the patch. This is also identified by its Patch Name, "14223977".

The seven patches are as follows (for the Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit)) platform:
14223977 - Patch 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 (1 of 7) Oracle Business Intelligence Installer
14226980 - Patch 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 (2 of 7) Oracle Real Time Decisions
13960955 - Patch 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 (3 of 7) Oracle Business Intelligence Publisher
14226993 - Patch 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 (4 of 7) Oracle Business Intelligence ADF Components
14228505 - Patch 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 (5 of 7) Enterprise Performance Management Components Installed from BI Installer 11.1.1.6.x
13867143 - Patch 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 (6 of 7) Oracle Business Intelligence
14142868 - Patch 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 (7 of 7) Oracle Business Intelligence Platform Client Installers and MapViewer
Note that this is a cumulative patchset, and is available for all customers who are using Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition versions 11.1.1.6.0, 11.1.1.6.1, and 11.1.1.6.2

This patchset is available for the following platforms:
1. Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
2. Oracle Solaris on x86-64
3. Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)
4. Linux x86-64
5. Linux x86
6. Microsoft Windows (32-bit)
7. Microsoft Windows (64-bit)
8.IBM AIX on POWER Systems (64-bit)

Second point to note is that this is a cumulative patch, so will include prior patches.

Third, the mobile app for this release is available separately. You need to download the app, a free download, from the Apple iTunes App Store, at http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/oracle-business-intelligence/id534035015

More to follow this week.

Happy analyzing.
